From Pills to Penicillin: The Beecham Story Lazell, H.G. 1975

Biographical account of a former Beecham Chairman. Begins with his earlier career at Macleans, and the period in which the leading brands (Eno, Macleans, and Brylcream) were brought together by Philip Hill. This was in an era where the marketing prowess of the group was to the fore. In the post-war period we see the development of scientific medicine, and the role of Beecham Research Laboratories which Lazell was keen to push forward. By the end of the 1950s, the company had developed over 200 new penicillins, among which a number of effective varieties were commercialised. The company has since merged with US company SmithKline which in turn has now merged with Glaxo-Wellcome
